The Modified is finally finished!

June 1st, 2009

Larry Kennison and two of the primary crewmen pulled an all nighter Friday night and managed to finish the car with a little time to spare after putting the setup under it.  Larry had time to stop at home and take a shower prior to the trip to Woodhull.

Here’s the finished product!

The good news is nothing fell off!  The car actually ran quite well.  A second in his heat gave Dale a good fifth place start in the feature.  He fell into old habits and stayed in the bottom groove.  He was forced to start on the outside a couple of times and passed the car on the inside but then as soon as possible, he was on the bottom again.  And the cars he passed went back by on the outside.

Still, first night out and he finished seventh with no damage.  We wanted to try some new things this year but opted to run approximately our normal setup this week to get a baseline before we start trying other ideas that Dale and Larry cooked up this winter.

Darrell fills in

March 25th, 2009

Well this has been a very busy winter for Dale and he has not had time to write anything so I’m going to enter something!  It may not be interesting or informative but it will be better than the non-activity that is happening so far.

Excuse my overuse of punctuation.  I’m always throwing in extra commas where there really should be none, so just bear with me.  Also, you should all know that my mother always said I couldn’t spell sh*t even if I had a mouthful.  And my father always said I had two gears fast and half-fast and I was always in the second one.

Dale and Donna have been trying to close on a new house for themselves and our mother.  Of course they are also trying to sell their existing house, that’s why Dale has been so busy this winter.  The last I heard, they are scheduled to close tomorrow!  I hope they are able to get that out of the way but that means there will be that much more that Dale needs to do to get everything ready for the move.

The house is better located for Dales job and is large enough that they are going to be able to expand a little and have a mother-in-law apartment for our mother.  She has been slipping further and further into dementia / Alzheimers and will soon not be able to care for herself.  I’m very appreciative of Dale and Donna doing this for our family.

Getting back to the racing, work has finally started on the car.  We did the tear down late last year and then nothing happened for awhile.  Now the chassis has been sent out, sandblasted and painted and just this past week work has started in earnest.

The Arnot Mall Woodhull / Redline show is this weekend.  The cars are to be put in on Friday evening and  you may notice that as of Sunday early evening there is a bit more work to be done.  Excuse the quality of the picture as I just used my cheap cell phone.

See other photos by following the link Photos bookmark.

I have not spoken to Dale or Larry since Sunday evening so I don’t know if they are still planning to make the show but as of Sunday they were still hopeful.

We still do not have a schedule of where we will be running but Woodhull on Saturday nights is a definite.  On Fridays when the 358 is not running, Dale is planning to drive the Steve Kent 7x super stock / late model at Blackrock.  They had a little success in 2008 with only a handful of outings later in the year.

I hope to add to this at least once a week until we can get Dale to start posting.  He is a much better writer than I am and I think you’ll find him much more interesting than me.

Darrell

Welcome

January 3rd, 2009

As you frequently see on the web, this site is under construction. I’m not sure what we are building but hope to get Dale to contribute a blog. He loves to write and (as his son Craig says) he is the king of korny komedy. So I hope his ramblings, be they daily, weekly or monthly, will be funny and interesting to all.<br>We will have pictures of what is in progress with the current car / season. Hopefully a published schedule of where we will be this coming year. Later, a historical section with pictures from the past.
